DLA Piper twice recognised at IJGlobal ESG Awards 2022

DLA Piper has won both the ESG Legal Adviser Award, and ESG Social Award, at the IJGlobal ESG Awards 2022. The international awards celebrate the great and the good of the global infrastructure and energy sectors and represent the latest in a series of ESG related recognitions for the firm.

The ESG Legal Adviser Award recognised the firm as “leading the field for law firms on an environmental front, by walking the walk”, noting the firm’s industry-first Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), applying its long-standing expertise in renewables to innovating to achieve its own decarbonisation goals. The panel of independent judges went on to commend the firm’s “strong expertise across decarbonisation”, “impressive focus on the social element of ESG”, and “showing a level of innovation and consequential impact far greater than simply following their clients’ deals”.

The ESG Social Award recognised the firm’s contribution to societal challenges, celebrating the firm’s “diversity in social topics, including very challenging areas”, and its “timely response to impacted Ukranians”. The judges considered the firm’s combination of responsible client solutions like its “innovative, creative and powerful” D&I Index, and extensive pro bono initiatives, including breaking the mould in providing innovative finance strategies to provide humanitarian relief through a myriad of partnerships and collaborations.

JP Douglas-Henry, Managing Director for Sustainability & Resilience at DLA Piper, comments: “In what has felt like a milestone year investing in initiatives to support our global community and enable our colleagues to steer our firm and our clients to positive ESG outcomes, recognition like this means a great deal. Thanks to hard work from across our organisation, and empowerment from the firm’s leadership, we’ve shared over 200,000 pro bono hours in the last year in supporting displaced people, enabling renewables infrastructure, and so much more for which we are very proud. We are excited to continue on this journey in years to come.”

Judges remarked that “DLA Piper has been sweeping the board for ESG trophies this last year, and this trend continues”. The two IJGlobal awards are the latest in a number of recent accolades for DLA Piper’s ESG related work, including: ESG Firm of the Year and Best ESG Initiative at the Financing Wind Awards 2022, ESG Firm of the Year at the Partnership Awards 2022, ESG Programme of the Year at the Legal Business Awards 2022, Local Impact and Global Partnership Awards at the 2022 PILnet Global Awards, and commendation as a “Standout” in the Financial Times Innovative Lawyer Awards Responsible Business in Law category.
