DLA Piper secures bankruptcy court approval for donation to Honorable Kevin J. Carey Memorial Scholarship at Villanova University
DLA Piper, in collaboration with Jeffrey Bland of Abengoa North America, secured bankruptcy court approval to donate unclaimed distribution funds to the Honorable Kevin J. Carey Memorial Scholarship at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law.
The donation was the last step in a multi-year process following Abengoa’s Chapter 11 filings and confirmation of its plan of reorganization, which directed that unclaimed distributions could be donated to a qualifying charitable organization.
Judge Carey presided over the Abengoa US bankruptcy cases prior to his retirement in 2019. Following his passing in 2024, the Carey family established the scholarship fund to honor his legacy and support academically talented students at the law school who demonstrate financial need.
