DLA Piper appoints Edward Eisdell-Moore as partner in technology and data
DLA Piper has appointed Edward (Ed) Eisdell-Moore as a partner in its technology and data practice, effective 1 January 2026.
Ed is an experienced technology and data lawyer advising on complex technology matters, including artificial intelligence, tech and sourcing projects, data protection and cybersecurity. His experience and skillset sit at the intersection of technology, regulation and commercial delivery. His practice spans start-ups, high-growth technology businesses, major corporates and publicly listed multinationals, particularly in data-intensive and infrastructure-driven sectors. He operates within DLA Piper’s global Intellectual Property and Technology (IPT) practice, made up of over 800 lawyers, enabling coordinated support for technology-enabled businesses operating across multiple jurisdictions.
The appointment reflects the firm’s continued investment in technology, data governance and digital infrastructure capability in New Zealand, as organisations face increasing regulatory and operational complexity when adopting AI and data-driven systems. As digital transformation accelerates, legal issues are now embedded across procurement, implementation and business-as-usual operations, requiring advisers who combine regulatory insight with practical delivery experience.
Laura Scampion, DLA Piper's Country Managing Partner in New Zealand, said Ed’s appointment reflects sustained client demand for sophisticated technology and data advice.
“Technology, data and AI are now core business issues for our clients, not specialist side topics,” Scampion said. “Ed brings deep technical credibility, strong regulatory understanding and a practical mindset to complex projects. His previous experience as an in-house technology and data specialist at a multinational energy gentailer informs a highly client-centric approach and also boosts our ability to advise clients in the energy sector – including on data centres. His promotion recognises the market need for advisers who can support both innovation and compliance in equal measure.”
Paul Allen, DLA Piper’s Global Head of IPT, said Ed’s promotion strengthens the firm’s technology and data capability in New Zealand and supports clients operating across multiple regulatory environments.
“Clients are dealing with complex and overlapping technology, cybersecurity and data protection issues, while still needing to deliver projects on time and at scale,” Allen said. “Ed gives clients clear and commercial advice in areas where the law is evolving quickly, and his judgement is consistently spot‑on. His promotion reflects the trust clients place in him and the strength he brings to our technology and data practice.”
Ed is recognised for his publications and commentary on emerging regulatory issues, including New Zealand’s approach to AI strategy and regulation, as well as for his experience advising organisations on how to operationalise a light-touch regulatory framework through effective governance and compliance structures. Alongside Nick Valentine, Head of Technology and Data at DLA Piper in New Zealand, Ed works closely with corporate, finance, litigation and regulatory teams to support transactions, infrastructure projects and regulatory change programmes involving significant digital and data components.
In addition to his client work, Ed plays an active role in the firm’s pro bono and community programmes, reflecting a broader leadership contribution within the firm and the profession.
