DLA Piper appointed as legal adviser for BrewDog PLC administration
Global law firm DLA Piper advised BrewDog PLC, the Scotland-based multinational brewery and pub chain, on entering administration and the divestment of elements of its business and assets.
BrewDog, founded in 2007, has four breweries, over 100 pubs globally, and employs over 1,000 people worldwide. It has grown to become a highly recognisable brand. In recent years, the business has seen operational costs rise; coupled with changing consumer behaviour, this has created a challenging business environment for high-street businesses across the UK.
The multidisciplinary DLA Piper team was led by Rob Russell, Head of Restructuring, UK, and Sarah Letson, Restructuring partner in the firm's Finance practice. They were supported by a team from the firm's offices in the UK, US, Spain, Ireland, Sweden, Australia, Germany, and Belgium. The DLA Piper team will additionally support Alix Partners as the appointed administrator.
Commenting on this transaction, Rob Russell said: "BrewDog’s administration is another example of the challenges facing UK consumer and high‑street businesses. This matter also highlights how DLA Piper’s integrated cross‑border Restructuring practice supports clients whose challenges extend beyond the UK. By bringing together a multi-jurisdictional team, we are able to navigate complex issues efficiently and protect value for stakeholders wherever they are located.”
