Gary Anderson

Gary Anderson is a partner in our Insurance practice based in Boston with extensive experience in insurance regulation, compliance, governance, and prudential policy.

A former Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and former Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance, Gary advises insurers and other industry participants on complex regulatory, compliance, investigation, and risk management matters. He is frequently called upon to provide strategic counsel on regulatory engagement, governance, industry transactions, and brand integrity issues, drawing on decades of experience shaping insurance policy and regulatory frameworks.

Gary advises companies navigating evolving regulatory scrutiny, having played a leading role in international discussions involving insurance standards, capital requirements, and macroprudential policy.

Gary is a member of DLA Piper's cross-disciplinary Private Credit and Insurance Working Group, which helps insurers, reinsurers, private equity firms, and asset managers navigate increasing regulatory scrutiny of private credit, privately rated securities, affiliated investments, offshore asset-intensive reinsurance, and complex structured assets. Drawing on his leadership of national and international regulatory bodies, Gary provides practical guidance on emerging supervisory expectations, investment governance, disclosure obligations, and enforcement risk.
