David advises insurers and reinsurers on policy coverage issues and disputes, with a particular focus on warranty & indemnity, property/business interruption and aviation insurance. 

David has experience of international arbitration under the rules of the LCIA and the ICC, as well as ad-hoc arbitrations.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advising insurers on a wide variety of claims (worth up to GBP 60m) brought to warranty & indemnity insurance polices, including in arbitrated disputes.
  • Acting for London market reinsurers in respect of the LAMIA flight 2933 loss.
  • Advising in respect of claims brought in various jurisdictions (including England, Ireland and the USA) to War and All Risks aviation policies arising out of the Russia/Ukraine conflict.
  • Acting for insurers in an arbitration relating to a claim under a Bermuda Form policy, in respect of an oil spill in the USA.
  • Advising Lloyd’s market and company insurers on property/business interruption coverage issues, and reinsurers on treaty reinsurance disputes arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic, including in Markel International Insurance Co Ltd v General Reinsurance AG [2024] EWHC 253 (Comm).
  • Acting for reinsurers in arbitration proceedings arising out of 9/11 first responder related losses.
