Matthew is a corporate attorney with deep experience advising clients on complex mergers and acquisitions, with a focus on the insurance and indemnification aspects of private equity and strategic transactions. His practice bridges corporate law and sophisticated risk allocation strategies, including the use of transactional risk insurance products, such as representation and warranty (R&W), tax, and contingent liability insurance. He also counsels clients on director and officer D&O liability, cyber insurance, and emerging insurance solutions tailored to dynamic transactional environments.
Prior to joining DLA Piper, Matthew served as a senior executive with a managing general underwriter, where he led the underwriting and placement of transactional risk solutions. He has held leadership roles at prominent insurers, managing R&W underwriting teams and spearheading the development of innovative products, such as intellectual property risks. Drawing on years of experience working with law firms, financial sponsors, and strategic investors, Matthew brings a unique ability to design bespoke risk solutions that align with the commercial objectives of complex transactions.
Matthew began his career in public service, holding national security and intelligence roles with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community, with assignments both domestically and abroad.
