Mathieson has experience in a range of civil disputes that include class actions, professional negligence, directors’ and officers’ liability, contractual, personal injury and property damage claims. 

Mathieson has practiced in the Federal and State Courts at all levels in an advisory capacity on straightforward and complex litigation. Mathieson defends tortious claims for many local and global underwriters, brokers, corporates and local councils.

Mathieson has handled many personal injury/death and property damage claims.

EXPERIENCE

  • Acting for the AFL in all of its concussion litigation including 2 class actions issued in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
  • Acting for a director in an insolvent trading claim in the Supreme Court of Victoria. Mathieson resolved the matter for his client at mediation whilst the other defendants proceeded to trial. 
  • Advising five directors in a 43-day Supreme Court defamation trial that was the subject of 9 separate publications.
  • Advising Grant Thornton in a Supreme Court Action for their role in auditing a mining company that subsequently went into liquidation.
  • Advising an architect in a Supreme Court Action regarding a breach of copyright claim.
  • Advising a Local Government regarding its Development Approval Process.
  • Advising Absolute IT Solutions in relation to a ransomware attach suffered by its client and an alleged breach of contractual duties that resulted in the client's network being offline for in excess of 3 weeks.
