EXPERIENCE

His recent representative matters include the following:

  • In a $40M+ earnout dispute: compelled arbitration in Delaware Court of Chancery, obtained complete defense award in arbitration, defeated vacatur of arbitration award in Delaware Court of Chancery, and affirmed on appeal to Delaware Supreme Court
  • Represented horse cloning entrepreneur in a two-week jury trial in Southern District of Florida for breach of contract and novel issue of first impression for misappropriation of state and federal trade secrets
  • Obtained motion to transfer, pursuant to Section 1404(a), from the Southern District of New York to the Eastern District of Texas in an SEC enforcement action on behalf of former founder and chairman of publicly traded company headquartered in Texas (November 2024); litigation is currently ongoing
  • Argued and obtained complete denial of summary judgment on $5M promissory note default in Collin County, Texas
  • Obtained dismissal with prejudice at pleadings stage of Section 12 of Securities Act claim in class action suit in Northern District of Texas
  • Conducted internal investigation for state fund regarding potential influence peddling and misconduct
  • Representing companies and individuals in grand jury investigations and navigating grand jury subpoenas
  • Representing former CEO of publicly traded satellite company in securities class actions in the Southern District of Florida and Delaware Court of Chancery; litigation is currently ongoing
  • Argued for dismissal of TCPA class action complaint on behalf in the Northern District of Texas (February 2025); obtained complete voluntary dismissal the day after oral argument
  • Won a jury verdict in state court for sporting enterprise in breach of contract action in Dallas County
  • Obtained unanimous jury verdict over an attorneys' fees award in Dallas County
  • Achieved complete dismissals in numerous securities class action lawsuits and life sciences litigation
  • Represented private equity firm in employment disputes in arbitration through final hearing
  • Successfully negotiated, mediated, and settled indemnification claims and breach of contract disputes

Pro Bono

  • Member of the DLA Piper Americas pro bono committee
  • Drafted and negotiated debt swap agreements in exchange for $20M (USD) commitments to preserve priority biodiverse forests in Peru
  • Advising the South Sudan Ministry of Justice on establishing a Commission on Truth, Reconciliation, and Healing, including in 2023, drafting the implementing legislation for the Commission and the Compensation and Reparations Authority Bills, both of which were passed by Parliament in 2024
  • Supported strategic negotiations on behalf of a developing country party under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
  • Presented and facilitated public consultations to civil society to inform transitional justice legislation drafting for the Public International Law and Policy Group (PILPG)
  • Represented numerous immigration clients in areas of asylum, humanitarian parole, U visas, and various other forms of relief
  • Guest lectured at the Universidad Panamericana and Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico, Mexico City, seminar on serving clients who are domestic violence survivors
