Laura is an Associate in the Litigation, Arbitration and Investigations Group at DLA Piper and is based in Dubai. She has experience in both the UK and Middle East in the area of commercial dispute resolution, including international arbitration and litigation.

Laura advises clients on complex, multi-jurisdictional disputes spanning a range of sectors including finance, real estate and hospitality & leisure.

EXPERIENCE

Commercial Arbitration & Litigation

  • Acting for a UAE based leading steel producer in an ADCCAC arbitration relating to a high-value dispute concerning termination and loss of profit claims, in excess of AED200m.
  • Representing a Bahrain headquartered crypto asset service provider in the DIFC Courts in relation to withheld payments.
  • Advising an energy company in the GCC on three related indexation disputes arising from the operation and maintenance of power and water projects.

Regulatory: CCI

  • Advising a world-leading MedTech company in regard to internal investigations into compliance issues across numerous jurisdictions in the Middle East.
  • Advising one of the world's largest hospitality and leisure groups as to their operations and leasing structures in the DIFC and onshore Dubai.
  • Advising a European Bank concerning its ESG strategy for investment and asset management in the UK and Europe.

Construction

  • Representing a UAE based MEP contractor in DIAC arbitration proceedings arising in respect of a prominent ultra-luxury resort and residences in Dubai, with claims in excess of AED1bn.
  • Representing the Owner of a desalination plant in two ICC arbitrations, in relation to high value construction defect remediation claims and Covid-19 claims, seated in the DIFC, pursuant to English law.
  • Advising a Portuguese fit-out contractor regarding project completion and entitlement to extensions of time on the construction of one of the largest airports in the Middle East.
