Caitlin’s sports practice emphasizes litigation, where she routinely advises sports organizations in class actions, multi-district litigation and commercial business disputes at the state and federal levels. Caitlin’s notable work within the sports industry includes representing collegiate organizations regarding athletic grant-in-aid, name, image and likeness, concussions, return-to-play issues, licensing and telecast rights agreements.

In addition to Caitlin’s extensive work in the sports industry, she is a proficient litigator with significant trial experience in state and federal courts. Caitlin regularly handles large class action multi-district litigation matters ranging from aviation to oil and gas. She regularly counsels clients in matters involving contractual disputes, business dissolutions, breach of fiduciary duty claims, assets purchase and stock purchase agreements, and other business torts. Caitlin is relied upon to deliver cost-effective results for her client’s business goals.

  • Represent a collegiate athletic conference in a class action challenging NCAA rules related to name, images and likenesses
  • Successfully obtained a mandamus relief for a collegiate athletic conference asserting dominant jurisdiction in an alternative forum, effectively terminating litigation
  • Representing collegiate sports conferences in multiple class actions and appeals that challenge NCAA rules related to student/athlete financial aid
  • Successfully represented an aviation company in a dispute with a business partner after virtual arbitration
  • Successfully represented a sports media rights holder in an arbitration against a broadcaster regarding a contract dispute
  • Represented an aviation manufacturing company in contract dispute through all phases of litigation, including substantial discovery and motion practice
  • Managed large class action and multidistrict litigation cases from inception through discovery, trial and appeal
  • Regularly advises technology clients on areas related to contract disputes and disputes with licensees
  • Successfully obtained pre-suit deposition orders for clients to investigate potential claims prior to filing a lawsuit
  • Won an appeal of a trial court verdict and order resulting in a new trial in state court
  • Significant experience in guiding clients through all stages of discovery, especially complex electronic discovery
  • In representing potential defendants, negotiated pre-litigation settlements which resulted in no lawsuits being filed against them in breach of contract and warranty cases
  • After a nearly year-long dispute in both state and bankruptcy court, successfully obtained a settlement with a hotel management company resolving all claims for breach of contract, fiduciary duty and negligent misrepresentation
  • After months of heated motion practice and discovery disputes, leveraged a multimillion-dollar settlement for assisted nursing facility providers in a case involving a breach of contract and federal discrimination
  • Provided advice to a private college as to how best to manage a potential whistleblower claim to avoid litigation. No litigation was commenced
  • Successfully negotiated the settlement of an oil and gas lease dispute with a large oil and gas company in a case involving a breach of contract and suit on sworn account
  • Filed a suit after negotiations with a landlord broke down positioning a client to obtain a very favorable settlement in a pro bono matter involving a breach of lease agreement and violations of Texas landlord-tenant law
