About

Eirini is a Senior Lead Lawyer of the firm with over 12 years’ experience in EU Regulatory, EU Competition law, State aid and litigation cases. Eirini has a wealth of experience in international arbitration (e.g. ICC, ICSID) and general litigation cases before the competent EU Courts. Eirini advises State governments and private parties on all aspects of EU regulatory and State aid law, in a range of sectors including energy, finance and aviation. Eirini is qualified in Athens and Brussels (List E).

Eirini holds an LLM from Ludwig Maximilians Universtität Munich (LLM.Eur) where she focused inter alia on EU Competition Law and also a Master in National and EU Civil Procedural Law from the Law Faculty of Athens. Eirini also holds a Diploma on Economics for Competition Law from the King’s College in London.

Eirini, before joining DLA Piper in Brussels, has spent time in the Brussels office of another UK-headquartered global law firm. Eirini advised State entities and private parties on all aspects of EU regulatory, antitrust and State aid law. She has gained significant experience in international arbitration cases in multiple fora (e.g. ICC and ICSID) while representing the Hellenic Republic in three interrelated multi-billion disputes concerning the timely delivery of a number of naval vessels. Eirini has also worked at the European Commission in Brussels with the Antitrust Unit (E2-Consumer goods, Basic Industries, Agriculture and Manufacturing) focusing on several cartel and abuse of dominance cases. She gained valuable experience by being involved in the landmark cases (like the cement cartel) during her time working there.

EXPERIENCE

  • Represented the Hellenic Republic in 3 complex international arbitration proceedings before the ICC and ICSID. The cases concerned the purchase of a Greek shipyard, as well as the (non)- delivery or delayed delivery of a number of naval vessels ordered by the Hellenic Republic. All three cases involved a multi- million complex State aid law claim. The ICSID case dealt also with the interrelationship between public international law and EU law. Eirini was the lead senior associate on all these cases.
  • Represented the European Commission before the General Court of the EU in Luxembourg in complex public procurement/ reaction for damages cases.
  • Advised a national air carrier of an EU Member State on various EU State aid measures under the European Commission's Covid-10 Temporary Framework and Article 107(2)(b) TFEU.
  • Drafted and filed antitrust complaints before the European Commission in the telecoms sector.
  • Advised clients on the application of EU competition rules on vertical restrains in the context of franchise agreements.
