About

Siona Spillett is experienced in cross-border litigation, with a focus on the life sciences and media sectors. She works alongside clients to find commercial solutions to a broad range of disputes, including complex contractual arrangements and product liability matters.

In Life Sciences, she regularly advises pharmaceutical, medical device and medical equipment manufacturers on defending product liability claims (including consumer mass actions) and complex contractual disputes connected with R&D, procurement and cross-border supply chains. For media clients, she has advised on a wide range of corporate disputes including breach of warranty claims, as well as defamation claims, technology and licensing disputes, including those impacted by OFCOM regulation.

In her broader commercial practice, she regularly advises on complex contractual disputes and has secured freezing injunctions (including worldwide) over assets across Europe and Asia, as well as representing international clients in the Commercial Court. She has also been instructed on both international and domestic arbitration under the UNCITRAL and LCIA rules.

Siona regularly speaks on conflict of law issues, including for the Law Society of England & Wales and at Birmingham University. She previously spent two terms at the Court of Appeal as the Judicial Assistant to the Master of the Rolls and, whilst in practice, achieved a distinction in a Masters degree in commercial law.

  • Advising on defence of group litigation, including for a German multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company on product liability claims under a Group Litigation Order
  • Managing a portfolio of disputes across Europe for a global medical device manufacturer after a change of Notified Body caused a delay in CE certification
  • Successful defence of a medical technologies multinational company in a breach of contract and insurance dispute in the English Commercial Court
  • Advising suppliers of medical technology, devices and pharmaceuticals on contractual disputes including distribution arrangements, R&D licensing and revenue share agreements
  • Advising multinational pharma and medical device companies on product liability claims by consumers, including in relation to diabetes medication, glucose monitoring devices and contrast dye
  • Advising a FTSE 100 multinational manufacturer on a potential multi-million breach of warranty claim against a supplier subject to ICC arbitration
  • Securing worldwide freezing injunctions, including over assets in England, France and Singapore
  • Advising on corporate disputes including:
    - for a US multinational media company on high value and complex breach of warranty claims arising out of a joint venture
    - on multi-million pound earn-out dispute under a SPA
    - on Board and shareholder disputes, including for listed companies
  • Representing a FTSE 250 engineering business in its defence of regulatory and potential civil actions arising from its pension scheme
  • Representing a FTSE 100 multinational hospitality group as Respondent in a multi-million breach of contract claim subject to LCIA arbitration
