Patricia is a commercial litigation solicitor qualified in Scotland and England & Wales. Patricia specialises in complex commercial litigation, arbitration and advising clients in relation to data privacy / information security. She also holds a particular interest in disputes of a corporate nature.

She regularly works cross-border, including within the UK and internationally. Patricia’s practice extends over a number of sectors, including Technology, Consumer, Goods Food & Retail, Financial Services and Life Sciences.

Patricia is the regional co-lead of the DLA Piper UP Network, which provides a platform for multi-sector NextGen networking and professional development in the Edinburgh marketplace. She is also the President of the Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association – a membership network representing over 5,000 junior solicitors across Scotland.

EXPERIENCE

  • Acted for retail banking client in successfully defending action for reduction of Court of Session decree.
  • Advising international manufacturing company following the compromise of its customer accounts via a brute force credential stuffing (‘password spraying’) attack. Patricia assisted in coordinating local counsel advice in over 15 global jurisdictions; ensuring that the client was able to meet its obligations to data regulators and data subjects in these locations.   
  • Advising international gaming and technology company in responding to a ransomware attack. Patricia assisted in notifying the ICO and affected data subjects and advising the client as to the scope of its regulatory obligations as a consequence of the incident. 
  • Acted for construction company in successfully defending construction arbitration, governed by the laws of Saudi Arabia, and quantified at 500m USD. 
  • Acted in three concurrent arbitrations raised against national builders’ merchant / retailer in respect of dilapidations. 
  • Acted for leading Scottish tourism organisation in successfully defending action raised under Procurement (Scotland) Regulations 2016 in respect of its tendering process. 
  • Acted as lead solicitor in multifaceted claim against English local authority concerning allegations of defamation, breach of human rights and the GDPR. Successfully secured dismissal of case at Debate. 
  • Acted as lead solicitor in successfully pursuing a claim for a Scottish Premier League football club against its former sponsor for breach of contract. Summary decree obtained in early course. 
  • Advising private equity house (operating in sustainability and technology sectors) as to the efficacy of enacting drag along rights.
