Joely advises clients in all areas of competition and consumer law, access and economic regulation. With experience in advising clients in Australia, Joely's clients include the ACCC, ASIC, CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy, airports across Australia and global shipping companies.

Joely has also been seconded to Citipower, Powercor and United Energy.

Joely prioritises her pro bono practice, including by being the Melbourne office's Pro Bono Coordinator

EXPERIENCE

  • Advising the ACCC in its consideration of Sigma Healthcare Limited’s (ASX: SIG) proposed acquisition of Chemist Warehouse Group Holdings (2024).
  • Acting for Perth Airport in:
    • the negotiation of its landmark 12 year deal with Qantas (2024),
    • Qantas’s appeal against the decision of the Supreme Court of Western Australia (2022),
    • its successful litigation against Qantas, seeking fair and reasonable compensation for Qantas’ use of Perth Airport (2021).
  • Advising ASIC on its investigation into Oak Capital Mortgage Fund Limited and Oak Capital Wholesale Fund Limited concerning a lending model alleged to have been designed to avoid regulation under the National Credit Code. Representing ASIC in enforcement proceedings alleging that by implementing the model, Oak engaged in unconscionable conduct in contravention of s 12CB of the ASIC Act.
  • Advising the ACCC in its investigation of Qantas Airways Ltd proposed acquisition of Alliance Aviation Services Ltd (2023).
  • Advising a global container line in respect of ACCC and New Zealand Commerce Commission inquiries into collusive conduct (2021-2024).
  • Advising the ACCC with respect to its Digital Platforms Services Inquiry.
  • Advising Citipower, Powercor and United Energy including in respect of its 2026-31 distribution determination, its 2021-26 distribution determination and regulatory obligations under the NEL, NER and NEVA (2018-2024).
  • Advising Citipower, Powercor and United Energy on the application of regulatory frameworks for connection (2024).
