Catherine Wong is a Senior Associate in the Litigation and Regulation team, based in DLA Piper's Hong Kong office. She is qualified to practice in Hong Kong, England & Wales, British Virgin Islands, and Bermuda. 

Her practice covers all types of contentious cases, and focuses on handling shareholders’ disputes, winding up and liquidation proceedings, insolvency and restructuring matters, private wealth and trust disputes, urgent worldwide injunctions, and enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards.

Catherine is acknowledged by Legal 500 Asia-Pacific as a “Recommended Lawyer” for 2024, 2025 and 2026. She is also recognised on the “Hong Kong Rising Stars 2023” list by Asian Legal Business as one of HongKong’s top 30 next generation lawyers who have demonstrated great potential in the industry, while earning wide acclaim from clients.

Currently, Catherine is an active member of the Law Society of Hong Kong’s Insolvency Law Committee, Standing Committee on Member Services, Pro Bono Committee, and Pro Bono and Community Work Recognition Committee. In the past, Catherine served as committee member of the HKSAR Government's Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Panel,  Law Society of Hong Kong’s Young Solicitors’ Group and the Law Week Organising Committee.

Catherine regularly publishes articles in international law journals and frequently delivers presentations on contemporary topics.

EXPERIENCE

  • Acted for a lender in Hong Kong High Court proceedings to recover over US$250 million in outstanding principal, interest, and default interest under a cross border facility, and coordinating enforcement of the resulting judgment across Hong Kong, Canada, the United Kingdom and the PRC.
  • Represented the plaintiffs in a High Court action concerning alleged misappropriation of company funds and breaches of fiduciary and equitable duties, including support on parallel injunction proceedings in Singapore.
  • Acted for the plaintiff in a High Court defamation claim arising from the dissemination of serious allegations against a professional services firm and its senior leadership, together with advisory work on related enforcement steps in the PRC.
  • Secured a significant SIAC arbitral award in a put option dispute and subsequently led enforcement proceedings in the Cayman Islands.
  • Obtained a favourable Hong Kong judgment confirming our the client’s ownership rights and thereafter pursued rectification proceedings to effect corresponding amendments to the company’s register.
