DLA Piper named Diversity & Inclusion Commended Firm of the Year by Chambers Latin America

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that it was named the 2021 Diversity & Inclusion Commended Firm of the Year by Chambers Latin America as part of the publication’s Diversity and Inclusion: Latin America Awards 2021 recognizing the achievements of firms and individuals who are furthering the advancement of diversity and inclusion across Latin America.

DLA Piper was recognized in part for its Latin America Women’s Mentoring Program, which brings together Latin-American women lawyers in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Puerto Rico, Portugal and Spain. Since the program launched in July 2019, more than 100 women have participated, including more than 35 mentors and 65 mentees. The program promotes the retention, advancement and empowerment of women lawyers and connects women within specific practice areas across different countries.

The firm was also recognized for its Leadership Alliance for Women, a resource group that was created to help retain and develop women lawyers in the firm’s global environment and is fully integrated throughout DLA Piper’s Latin America offices. LAW empowers women lawyers by helping them develop leadership skills and maximize opportunities for business development.

Of the 10 firms that were shortlisted for Diversity and Inclusion Firm of the Year, DLA Piper was the only multinational firm to be included, a reflection of its strong, global commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

“As we continue to grow our presence throughout Latin America, we are committed to promoting an inclusive environment where women and diverse lawyers have the opportunity to lead and are equipped with the resources needed to succeed, which in turn allows us to assemble diverse teams that provide the highest level of service to clients across the region,” said Gabriela Alvarez-Avila, a partner in the firm’s Mexico City office.
