John Guarin is a Managing Director who runs DLA Piper's Latin America and Caribbean Tax Desk based in New York City. He focuses his practice on advising companies from several sectors on how to navigate the tax complexities involved in the region. John has extensive experience managing global international tax and corporate restructuring projects for U.S., E.U., China and Latin American-based multinational companies. He advises these companies on setting up international holding company structures; IP migration; regional operation headquarters; offshore procurement centers; nearshoring; legal entity elimination projects (liquidations, mergers, strike-offs); and/or review and realignment of supply chain structures.

John's typical deliverables include non-US tax, corporate, employment and regulatory effects write-ups; steps and documentation requirements listings (micro legal step plans); implementation budgets; presentation of alternatives when the circumstances require it; and systematized implementation documentation/binders.

John worked with a Big 4 firm's international tax and legal practices for more than 15 years, based in Barbados, The British Virgin Islands, Colombia and the United States. John was the director of that firm's Latin American and Caribbean legal practice and an International Tax and Legal Services partner in Bogota.
