The deadline for transposing the EU Pay Transparency Directive into national law has expired. Since 8 June 2026, Germany, like several other Member States, has been in a state of non-compliance with its obligations under EU law. A swift legislative response is not yet in sight.
According to the Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ), a draft bill is not expected to be published before the end of the parliamentary summer recess in September 2026. The German legislator is currently aiming for the new legislation to enter into force on 1 January 2027, while the right to information and the reporting obligations are expected to become applicable only from 2028 onwards.
