Kathryn Mitchell advises companies and investors on advanced technologies and regulatory strategy, guiding their engagement with policymakers and federal agencies.
Before joining DLA Piper, Kathryn spent more than a decade in senior roles across the legislative and executive branches. Most recently, she served as Chief of Staff for the CHIPS Research & Development Office at the US Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology, where she worked closely with the White House, the Office of the Secretary, Cabinet-level leaders, and Congressional leadership to shape and implement federal semiconductor and emerging technology initiatives.
Kathryn also served as a Team Chief at the Pentagon supporting the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering, directing policy and stakeholder engagement across key technology areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, quantum science, biotechnology, robotics, and space. Earlier in her career, she was Chief of Staff to two members of Congress, where she led the development and passage of hundreds of provisions enacted through the National Defense Authorization Act, the Intelligence Authorization Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act, among others.
