DLA Piper receives two 'Deals of the Year 2021' awards from India Business Law Journal

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that two DLA Piper-led deals have received recognition in the “Deals of the Year 2021” list by India Business Law Journal. The list celebrates highly complex and market-defining transactions and the lawyers behind them.

DLA Piper was recognized for its work on the following deals:

  • HCL Technologies USD500 million global bond offering which was the highest ever rated credit from India

    DLA Piper advised services giant, HCL Technologies, and its American subsidiary, HCL America Inc., on the issue of a USD500 million offering of 1.375% senior unsecured notes due in 2026. The Rule 144A/Reg S notes are backed by a corporate guarantee of HCL Technologies Ltd. and are listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange. Led by Singapore-based Corporate partner and Debt Capital Markets Asia Pacific practice head, Philip Lee, with support from International Deputy Chair of the India Group, Meraj Noor, this transaction was the highest rated deal ever to come to the international capital markets from India. Philip and Meraj were also supported by Singapore senior associates Andhari Sidhatra and Mei Sum Chan.

  • USD1.45 billion acquisition of Capco by Wipro Limited

    DLA Piper advised Wipro Limited, a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company, on all non-US and non-India aspects of the USD1.45 billion acquisition of Capco. Led by partner Dr Mathias Schulze Steinen and foreign associate Viola (Tsai Hsuan) Lee, the DLA Piper team provided seamless support from due diligence to transactional document advice to advice on antitrust and foreign direct investment issues across 21 jurisdictions.

The landmark deals were chosen based on transactional data, submissions received from Indian and international law firms, and interviews with India-focused legal and corporate professionals.
