Prasad Taksal is a highly experienced transactional lawyer with over 20 years of Canadian and international experience assisting clients in planning, structuring, negotiating and successfully implementing business and commercial transactions, and achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance. Prasad’s practice is focused on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and strategic investments and corporate and commercial law advisory. Prasad is also a key member of the firm’s Aviation Practice Group.
Prasad’ deep transactional experience spans a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, transportation, education, information technology, private equity, and venture capital. He advises clients on complex corporate and commercial matters, including acquisitions and divestitures, debt financings and leveraged buy-outs, share transactions, private equity fund formation, and joint ventures. Prasad is highly skilled in drafting and negotiating sophisticated contracts, and regularly counsels on corporate governance, procurement matters, privacy matters and international sanctions compliance. He has particular expertise in multi-jurisdictional and cross-border transactions, representing clients on both the buy and sell side in high-stakes international deals.
Prasad specializes in aviation industry matters, with a focus on commercial transactions and regulatory compliance, and represents leading international air carriers, commercial and private operators and manufacturers on the purchase, financing, and leasing of aircraft and aircraft engines, certification and licensing issues and regulatory proceedings.
Before joining DLA Piper, Prasad practiced at a top-tier law firm in India in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, foreign direct investments and corporate and commercial law, and has extensive experience in advising clients in relation to investing and doing business in India.
Prasad is actively involved with the Canadian Bar Association, and is an executive member and past-chair of the National Air and Space Law Section. In addition to participation in the firm’s pro bono programs, Prasad also volunteers as a mentor for internationally trained lawyers through the Calgary Region Immigrant Employment Council and for law students through the Canadian Bar Association.
