Patent Agent
About

Dr. Jiaqi Liu leverages her deep knowledge as a synthetic organic chemist to help clients protect their most complex chemical innovations. With over a decade of bench-science experience, she offers a unique, scientist-to-scientist perspective on the intricate chemical art, enabling her to translate nuanced inventions into strong, enforceable patent assets.

Jiaqi's practice focuses on preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the U.S. and abroad. Her technical breadth covers organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, homogeneous catalysis, organometallic chemistry, and physical organic chemistry. She earned her Ph.D. from West Virginia University developing cobalt-catalyzed synthetic methods for pharmaceutical scaffolds, and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan, where she unraveled mechanistic challenges in nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions.

Jiaqi is the first author of peer-reviewed articles and a book chapter co-contributor in "Modern Organometallic Chemistry IV." Prior to joining DLA Piper, Jiaqi practiced patent prosecution at a leading IP firm in Washington, D.C., where she assisted in protecting clients' inventions in the polymer, chemical, and pharmaceutical fields.

Jiaqi is not a lawyer.
