About

Dr Philipp Kynast advises global companies, financial institutions, infrastructure investors and private equity funds on cross-border M&A transactions, joint ventures, venture capital and other complex transactions. He has extensive experience across multiple sectors, including financial services, energy and natural resources, infrastructure, automotive and technology.

Philipp also advises on corporate law matters including German and European company and transformation law, take-over and capital markets law, and can draw on experience with distressed M&A matters. 

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Philipp worked for the German Consulate General in Los Angeles and renowned UK and US based law firms in Dusseldorf and New York. In 2019, Philipp has been seconded to the corporate department of IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG. While being qualified as a lawyer, Philipp also holds an MBA from IE Business School (Madrid) with a focus on strategy and entrepreneurship.

  • Advising Prudential Financial in connection with its consortium bid to acquire German life insurance group Viridium from Cinven valued at approximately EUR 3.5bn.
  • Advising Mercedes-AMG GmbH on a partnership with Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd. and Qiddiya Investment Company for the development of the world-class experience centre Mercedes-AMG World of Performance in Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia.
  • Advising SUSI Partners, a Swiss investment manager focusing on infrastructure opportunities that arise from the global energy transition, on the sale of a German onshore windfarm portfolio consisting of seven operative onshore windfarms with a total capacity of approx. 99 MW to Qualitas Energy Group.
  • Advising Scout24 SE on the acquisition of neubau kompass AG, a digital marketing platform for new construction projects for housing and real estate development in Germany.
  • Advising Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures, the strategic technology-focused corporate venturing program of Saudi Aramco on several venture capital investments, including in the Series B of ANYbotics AG, a leading Swiss provider of autonomous robots for industrial applications, the Series B and C of German photovoltaic manufacturer NexWafe GmbH, the Series B of Swiss climate tech company Daphne Technology S.A., the Series A+ of US-German software company 3YOURMIND GmbH, the Series A of Grandperspective GmbH, a German company offering the world’s first holistic emission monitoring system, and the Series A extension round of Swiss B2B procurement SaaS provider Archlet AG.*
  • Advising Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) in the establishment of a joint venture with Spanish listed multinational electric utility company Iberdrola group to develop and operate a 476 MW offshore wind farm located in the German Baltic Sea valued at approximately EUR1.6bn.*
  • Advising Infrastructure Investments Fund (IIF), an investment vehicle advised by J.P. Morgan, on the acquisition of GETEC, one of Europe's leading sustainable energy service companies for real estate and industrial customers from EQT Infrastructure valued at approximately EUR4bn.*
  • Advising Mubadala Capital, the investment arm of Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth-backed Mubadala Investment Company, on its investment in the Series B of Berlin-based e-scooter pioneer TIER Mobility and in connection with the contemplated acquisition of a listed European specialty pharmaceutical company.*
  • Advising Mercedes-Benz Group AG on the strategic acquisition of British electric motor specialist YASA Ltd.*
  • Advising Ancala Partners in connection with a bid relating to the contemplated acquisition of Infrareal GmbH, the owner and operator of German life science industrial parks Behringwerke Marburg and Pharmapark Jena valued at approximately EUR500m.*

  • Advising IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG on its strategic balance sheet restructuring, including a capital decrease in a nominal amount of EUR1.5bn via redemption of shares from Lone Star Funds.*
  • Advising KfW Capital GmbH & Co KG within the negotiation and conclusion of Co-Investment and Trust Framework Agreements with various venture capital funds in connection with the Corona Matching Facility secured by the Federal Republic of Germany.*
