DLA Piper extends exclusive relationship with Swedish Ski Association

Global Law Firm DLA Piper has extended its exclusive legal advisor role with the Swedish Ski Association to include cross-country skiing.

DLA Piper has worked with the Swedish Ski Association since 2019 advising on legal matters. The association has considerable environmental goals that reflect the direction in which this area is moving and as legal advisor DLA Piper is supporting this, for example, in the creation of legal agreements with suppliers that require them to deliver against high environmental standard.

The inclusion of cross-country skiing will see an extension of such environmental work, concentrating on the long term sustainability of future events through the application of innovative and effective law solutions.

DLA Piper has extensive experience in the media, sports and entertainment sector. The firm has a dedicated group of lawyers who have a knowledge of, and an interest in, sports and entertainment. Their advice spans the full spectrum of legal issues including finance, borrowing, investment and corporate issues, production and rights acquisitions, media rights, staging and maximising the potential of live sports and other events.

Ola Strömberg, Secretary General of the Swedish Ski Association, commented: “We welcome this opportunity to extend our relationship with DLA Piper to include cross-country skiing. Their extensive experience of the sports sector and leading-edge expertise in national and international law will be a great value to our association”.

Stockholm based partner, Erik Selander, commented: “Sporting events of the magnitude organised by the Swedish Ski Association require a high level of advice on everything from media and sponsorship matters through to governance and sustainability issues, which although complicated, are the key to the long-term viability of sporting activities.”

Nick Fitzpatrick, Global Co-Chair, Media Sport & Entertainment commented: “We are very proud of our work with the Swedish Ski Association and are delighted to extend our long and fruitful relationship”.
