About
Alex is a commercial media lawyer with extensive experience advising across the TV, film, and sports sectors. He is skilled in navigating complex commercial and regulatory matters and with a strong track record in both private practice and in-house roles. Alex has particular expertise in content distribution and platform/carriage agreements, sports media rights, production & commissioning, clearance, advertising compliance, and broadcast regulation.

He has spent a considerable time in industry (including as Senior Legal Counsel at NBC Universal prior to joining DLA Piper) and was recently requested for a six month secondment to Sky UK’s Original Content and Content Acquisition teams, where he provided specialist advice on production finance, content commissioning, and licensing of emerging media rights. Alex has been recognised as a 2025 ‘Gold Thought Leader’ by Passle (top 2% of authors by post performance) and also serves on DLA Piper’s IPT Shadow Management Committee.

  • Advising Coupang on its acquisition of Premier League and FA Cup broadcasting and promotional rights.
  • Advised a major US studio on its regional content rights and distribution reorganisation.
  • Provided specialist CMO advice to major organisations.
  • Media advice and preparing agreements for major US sports franchises' promotional and experiential presence in the UK and across Europe.
  • Negotiated the Investec's sponsorship of the EPCR Champions Cup and Challenge Cup.
  • Prepared a comprehensive report for a European government on all aspects of UK media law as applicable to the press and broadcasters.
  • Advising MBC on a platform and content deal for new media linear and SVOD distribution across MENA.
  • Advised an American multinational technology company on new B2B product offerings.
  • Advised ALCS in relation to their agreement for new author’s rights platform development and build.
