Emma Whenham is an investment funds partner who advises on structuring and capital raising for private funds with a focus on the real assets sector. She has represented global sponsors, as well as newly organized firms, in the formation and raising of both open and closed-ended private funds. Emma's work also includes advising on internal economic, strategic and governance matters, co-investment arrangements, and secondary transactions.

EXPERIENCE

Emma’s representative experience includes:

  • Advised a global investment manager on the sale of its international business and existing capital commitments to certain managed funds to another global sponsor in a market leading investment management merger and acquisition (M&A) transaction valued at $3.7 billion USD
  • Advised a leading North American alternative investment manager focused on infrastructure, private equity and real estate on significantly increasing its equity stake in an international data center provider in a $1.8 billion CAD transaction, the largest Canadian data center deal in history
  • Advised on the formation of the largest ever self-storage focused real estate fund, securing commitments from a diverse group of limited partners including domestic and international institutional investors, including public and corporate pensions, insurance companies, asset management firms and family offices
  • Advised a global sponsor in the formation of its twelfth global opportunistic real estate fund, focused on acquiring, developing and repositioning high-quality assets in nearly every major real estate asset class, securing a total of more than $10 billion in limited partner capital commitments
  • Advised a global sponsor on the creation of a co-sponsor arrangement with another US based group and subsequent creation of a co-sponsor managed fund series investing in niche sector hospitality assets
  • Advised a California and Texas based real estate hospitality group on the formation of each of its equity and credit real estate funds since the firm's creation in 2016, as well as each of its separate managed accounts and co-investment funds with individual investors, and all matters relating to management company and upper tier governance
