Daniel Colgan

Daniel Colgan is an experienced competition law practitioner, who has practised in this field for around 20 years. Daniel is the head of the DLA Piper International Competition / Antitrust team.

Daniel's practice includes advising on a wide range of complex competition law and foreign investment issues in an international context, covering both the EU and national regimes. In particular, he has advised on multi-jurisdictional merger control/FDI proceedings, as well as major high-profile global cartel matters involving coordinated investigations by multiple competition authorities worldwide.

Daniel has a strong focus on State aid matters (including significant experience regarding fiscal State aid) across multiple sectors. Daniel's areas of practice also include advising clients in relation to abuse of dominance investigations and a wide range of horizontal and vertical arrangements and competition litigation.

Daniel has advised clients in a wide range of industries, and has particular experience in the transport and logistics, energy (upstream, midstream, downstream, utilities, renewables, carbon/energy trading, etc.), tech and industrials/manufacturing sectors.

Daniel's achievements have been recognised, inter alia, by his inclusion in a previous edition of the Global Competition Review (GCR) "40 under 40" survey as one of the 40 top competition law practitioners under the age of 40 in the world, his inclusion in Who's Who Legal list of Future Leaders Competition (2019 - 2023) and Thought Leaders Competition. According to the Acritas Stars Survey, Daniel has been repeatedly nominated by various General Counsel as a stand-out lawyer.
