DLA Piper provides pro bono advice on Simplicity build-to-rent scheme

In continuation of a long-standing relationship, DLA Piper has provided pro bono legal advice to Simplicity, a non-profit fund manager, in establishing Simplicity Living, a build to rent housing programme alongside major home builder NZ Living.

The programme intends to build high quality, affordable homes for rent across New Zealand, providing alternative options for housing - a proven model overseas.

The homes will be built by Simplicity Living and certain funds within the Simplicity KiwiSaver Scheme (not including its default fund), and the Simplicity Investment Funds, will own and provide funding to Simplicity Living through a wholesale funding arrangement.

DLA Piper team established the structure and advised on governance and will continue to support through development of the new business.

The team was led by Partner, Rachel Taylor, supported by Solicitor, Lola Stoodley.

"It's a pleasure to support Simplicity in bringing alternative, more affordable options to the New Zealand housing market", says Rachel. "It is an example of DLA Piper's commitment to its pro-bono practice and working with clients committed to making a difference to people's lives'.

Simplicity CEO, Sam Stubbs, commented "without the support that we get from DLA Piper, we would not have got this initiative off the ground".
