Mackenzie advises clients in relation to large scale construction and engineering disputes internationally. She provides comprehensive advice to clients at all stages of a project and has acted on complex disputes in the energy & natural resources, infrastructure and construction sectors.

She is skilled in the management of complex proceedings and represents clients in high value disputes via arbitration (ICC, LCIA and SIAC), DABs, litigation, adjudication and other forms of ADR.

Mackenzie also participates in a variety of pro-bono and community engagement initiatives at DLA Piper.

Mackenzie is described as "a key port of call for employers, contractors, and investors" facing contentious construction disputes – Legal 500 2026.

EXPERIENCE

  • A multi-sponsor owned SPV in relation to a landmark green hydrogen project in the Middle East.
  • A world energy leader in a c. EUR300m ICC arbitration arising out of a contract for the sale of gas power systems equipment for a CCGT Power Plant. The dispute relates to allegations of complex technical defects and resulting delay.
  • A world energy leader on a dispute relating to the specialist design and engineering of an overseas power station. The dispute relates to significant delays caused by restricted site access, local trade union agreements, and delays to testing on completion.
  • An owner-operator of solar assets in relation to the ongoing management of and disputes arising under bespoke EPC contracts for the design and construction of two solar farms in the UK. The dispute concerns defects, maintenance and delays to the projects and resulting claims for liquidated damages.
  • An integrated energy company in a c. EUR20m LCIA arbitration relating to a contract for the supply, storage and transfer of fuel and involves alleged termination of the contract and the interpretation of provisions which govern termination.
  • A state-owned Chinese energy contractor in a SIAC arbitration relating to the recovery of outstanding sums payable under a repayment agreement which arises from an EPC contract for a coal fired power plant.
  • A specialist contractor in a c. EUR63m ICC arbitration relating to the design and construction of a large industrial port which was subject to a FIDIC Redbook contract.
  • A developer of a world leading green hydrogen facility in relation to defects and delays arising under an EPC contract and related agreements for the engineering, procurement, manufacture, construction, installation, start-up, commissioning and testing works.
  • A global contractor in relation to the refurbishment and redevelopment of a residential building. The dispute related to various defects arising from subcontractor's works.
  • A global bank in relation to claims arising from the redevelopment of a residential building relating to alleged building and fire safety defects under the Defective Premises Act 1972 and Building Safety Act 2022.
  • Acting for a retaining structure specialist sub-contractor in relation to a payment dispute under a CECA form sub-contract through two adjudications and proceedings in the Technology and Construction Courts.
  • A national train operating company in an arbitration subject to the Access Dispute Resolution Rules. The dispute arises due to alleged sustained poor performance under a track access contract.
