DLA Piper names 15th class of Krantz Fellows
DLA Piper Associates Sarah Choe and Morgan Byrne have been chosen for the firm’s Krantz Fellowship and will spend their first year at the firm focused exclusively on pro bono matters.
The Krantz Fellowship was created in honor of Sheldon Krantz, a retired DLA Piper partner and founding director of New Perimeter, the firm’s nonprofit affiliate that provides long-term pro bono legal assistance around the world.
“Sarah and Morgan will dedicate the next year to strengthening our communities and continuing our firm’s commitment to access to justice, while also developing legal skills that will be critical in their careers,” said Lisa Dewey, DLA Piper’s US Pro Bono Partner.
Choe (Washington, DC) previously served with Teach for America Corps, where she worked with special education students. She plans to concentrate her time as a Krantz Fellow on matters at the intersection of disability law, education, and juvenile justice.
Bryne (San Francisco) has worked in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California and the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She will focus her time on matters involving the criminal legal system.
Both Choe and Bryne will also spend time engaging in international pro bono projects through New Perimeter.
Outgoing Krantz Fellows Rita Kuckertz (San Diego) and Deyanira Cuellar (San Francisco) handled approximately 80 pro bono matters collectively during their time with the program. This included humanitarian immigration cases, domestic violence restraining orders, education and food security impact litigation, and prison condition matters, as well as global projects through New Perimeter.
