Aaron J. Shaddy is an accomplished business and commercial litigator with a dynamic practice, focusing particularly on defending clients in the financial services and healthcare sectors against allegations of negligence or misconduct. Aaron has broad experience at all stages of litigation in both state and federal courts, including in dispositive motion practice, managing document discovery, taking and defending depositions, drafting merits and amicus appellate briefs, and trial. His recent experience includes:

  • Defending global banks in Anti-Terrorism Act and Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act litigation premised on allegations of terrorist financing
  • Representing a major regional bank in litigation with the United States over the bank’s security interests in seized property
  • Defending a major regional bank in class-action litigation involving electronic funds transfers and alleged violations of Regulation E
  • Defending a major consumer goods company against trade secret misappropriation claims related to an allegedly confidential anti-counterfeiting system
  • Defending foreign automakers in class actions alleging consumer protection violations and fraud tied to advertising and product defects
  • Advising healthcare providers in breach of contract disputes concerning risk-sharing agreements
  • Defending a leading hospitality brand in premises liability disputes arising from third-party torts

Aaron joined DLA Piper after working at another major law firm and following his clerkships with the Honorable Robert B. Kugler of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Honorable Anthony J. Scirica of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is a graduate of the University of Utah and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was a member of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review and received the Thomas N O’Neill Prize for his pro bono work on behalf of indigent clients in Philadelphia.

In addition to his commercial practice, Aaron maintains an active pro bono practice, frequently advising clients on civil rights and election law matters, including issues affecting the Navajo Nation.
