Nicola is an experienced commercial real estate solicitor with significant experience in the real estate telecommunications and alternative real estate asset classes including electric vehicle charging and ESG initiatives.

Nicola has advised various clients, including insurers, retailers, institutional property investors, pension funds and corporate occupiers on a variety of commercial real estate matters.

Nicola’s work includes the acquisition, development and asset management of commercial properties including industrial units, leisure facilities and office buildings. She has advised institutional landowners on all aspects of telecommunications law and negotiated agreements with Ofcom regulated telecommunications operators on behalf of clients. Nicola is an active member of DLA Piper’s energy and renewables client advisory groups and regularly presents to clients on environmental performance legislation and its impact on the real estate sector. 

Nicola has also created and now leads a team of specialist fee earners to manage and run telecommunications projects and electric vehicle charging legal transactions to ensure efficient client service.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advising on behalf of a significant real estate development client on securing multiple rounds of funding for over GBP150m, negotiating option agreements, disposals of plots for over GBP100m per plot, drafting and negotiating a collaboration agreement between the client and one of the plot purchasers and negotiating infrastructure agreements to secure the requisite site infrastructure. 
  • Advising global company on asset management matters and the acquisition and development of new industrial purpose-built premises for over GBP15m.
  • Advising and leading on disposals for key hospitality client on their disposals on sales of up to GBP5m per annum.
  • Advising institutional landlords and investors on electric vehicle charging point projects on all aspects of real estate matters including tendering, drafting and negotiating bespoke documents, advising on covenants or development restrictions and power requirements for the new charge points.
  • Acting on behalf of Waypoint Asset Management on the installation and retention of electric vehicle charge points provided by Instavolt.
  • Acting as real estate lead for an electric vehicle charging point provider on all of their real estate legal transactions relating to the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure across England and Wales.
  • Advising institutional landlords and investors on the Electronic Communications Code and the implications for negotiations with telecommunications operators and project managing all legal transactions relating to the installation of fibre optic infrastructure across the clients’ portfolios to achieve their infrastructure deadlines.
  • Acting on behalf of British electricity and gas utility company to draft and negotiate bespoke master services agreement on behalf of a in relation to property obligations required by the Electronics Communications Code.
  • Acting on behalf of a US university to lead and manage real estate telecommunications matters. Nicola’s work allowed for the opening of the universities’ London Campus.
  • Acted on behalf of a co-working space provider in relation to their fibre optic rollout across their co-working office space in England.
  • Acting on behalf of a wireless infrastructure-as-a-service provider to produce a bespoke infrastructure licence and framework agreement to be entered into with local authorities across the UK.
  • Advising institutional landlords and investors on real estate aspects of power purchase agreements and the installation and retention of solar panels to power their real estate assets.
