International tax lawyer Peng Tao moves to DLA Piper in Northern California

DLA Piper announced today that Peng Tao has joined the firm’s Tax practice as a partner in Northern California, based in the Silicon Valley office. Tao was previously a partner and foreign legal consultant in DLA Piper’s Hong Kong office.

Tao focuses his practice on PRC tax, transfer pricing, mergers and acquisitions, foreign direct investment, and general corporate and commercial issues concerning operations in China, offshore investment from China and other cross-border transactions.

“Peng has long been a crucial source of China tax and legal advice for our West Coast international tax team, and his move to the US firm, combined with his ample experience and up-to-date insights on China, will help further improve our China corporate and tax services in the US,” said Sibel Owji, co-chair of DLA Piper’s US International Tax practice.

“Through the addition of Peng in Northern California, we are focused on strategically expanding our ability to serve multinational companies that have presences in China and Hong Kong and require guidance on significant China tax and supply chain matters that have been complicated by the current trade dynamics between China and the US,” said Sang Kim, US chair and global co-chair of the firm’s Tax practice.

Tao received his LL.B. from Peking University, his LL.M. from the University of Michigan and his LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law. He is currently admitted to practice law in New York, and is not yet admitted to practice law in California.
