DLA Piper recognized as a pro bono “Leading Light” by Latin Lawyer in 2025
DLA Piper has been named a “Leading Light” by Latin Lawyer for the firm’s sustained pro bono efforts in the region. The accolade recognizes law firms making noteworthy contributions to strengthening a culture of pro bono in Latin America.
Working closely with the DLA Piper’s nonprofit pro bono affiliate New Perimeter, the firm’s Mexico City office collaborated with Appleseed México, the Universidad Panamericana (UP) Law faculty, and UP’s legal clinic program, Bufete Jurídico Gratuito Social, to support the development and launch of Mexico’s first Legal Disaster Relief Brigade. This initiative will mobilize lawyers and law students to provide essential legal services in the aftermath of natural disasters.
This effort builds on the firm’s 17-year collaboration with Appleseed México, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting social justice and human rights in Mexico. The alliance has included creating the Mexican Pro Bono Network, teaching pro bono seminars, contributing to disaster guides for hurricane victims, and assisting those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
DLA Piper also represented education-focused non-governmental agency Mexicanos Primero in a lawsuit aimed at preventing cutbacks to the School is Ours program, which extended school hours for students at more than 25,000 schools and provided working parents more time to work to support their families.
Beyond the impactful work occurring in Mexico, DLA Piper’s broader Latin America team, including professionals across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Puerto Rico, and other key jurisdictions, continues to drive meaningful pro bono engagements as part of the firm’s long-standing commitment to serving communities across the region.
Award recipients are selected based on firm-provided survey responses, input from clearinghouses and the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice, demonstrated year-over-year growth in pro bono commitments, and additional editorial research.
