Chas Hamilton is a litigator and investigations lawyer with more than a decade of experience helping companies, boards, and individuals navigate high-stakes commercial disputes, internal investigations, and government inquiries. His practice focuses on the media, sports and entertainment, technology, telecommunications, and environmental and catastrophic-risk sectors, particularly in matters where legal, reputational, and operational risks converge.
In the media, sports and entertainment sector, Chas has defended an international sports association against league-wide liability claims involving questions of duty, causation, and organizational responsibility. He has also represented a national sports league in an investigation concerning alleged misconduct by coaches and league leadership. Chas helps lead the firm's Sports Litigation and Investigations Task Force and advises on sports betting and gambling regulation, including emerging issues involving prediction markets and related litigation and regulatory scrutiny.
Chas represents technology companies in litigation, investigations, and assessments involving platform and business risk. His work has included representing a technology company in a federal inquiry concerning statements to employment candidates about the forward-looking value of equity compensation, representing a social media company in SPAC-related litigation, and conducting a civil rights assessment addressing allegations of algorithmic bias.
In the telecommunications sector, Chas has defended an international provider against claims that it caused the 2020 Silverado Wildfire. He also helps lead the firm's Environmental and Catastrophic Events Task Force. Through this work, Chas advises organizations facing significant operational and legal risks before, during, and after catastrophic events, including through crisis simulation exercises and rapid response to active incidents.
Chas maintains an active pro bono practice focused on civil rights and access to justice, including asylum, housing, and tenant-protection matters. He leads a DLA Piper team representing the Dave the Potter Legacy Trust, which is composed of descendants of David Drake, an enslaved African American ceramic artist. The team represents the Trust in discussions with institutions concerning works Drake created during his enslavement.
Before beginning his legal career, Chas taught second grade in the Atlanta Public Schools through Teach For America.
