Frederick La Violette advises clients in the defense, aerospace, and energy sectors. He works with companies ranging from emerging defense-tech and energy startups to large public companies operating across multiple industries.
Fred advises clients on the structuring, drafting, and negotiation of agreements that support technology development and government contracting collaborations, including joint technology development, teaming, joint venture, framework, and other custom arrangements governing long-term development projects and pursuits.
With a strong focus on intellectual property and a deep understanding of the technologies at issue, he helps clients identify risks, protect strategic assets, and structure solutions that support durable market positions.
In addition, Fred counsels clients on the contractual and regulatory requirements associated with working with the government, including acquisition contracts, grants, research agreements, and cooperative agreements.
Before joining DLA Piper's Government Contracts subgroup, Fred practiced at an international law firm, where he represented clients in cross-border M&A and intellectual property- and technology-focused transactions, including complex licensing arrangements. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he worked in the art market at major auction houses, advising premier clients on building collections and supporting the research and marketing of modern and contemporary artworks.
