Shifting Your Legal Career to Israel

On January 6, 2025, DLA Piper Israel hosted an event at DLA Piper's New York office for legal professionals exploring the possibility of shifting their careers to Israel. Over 75 law students and lawyers at all stages of their careers attended the event, which included a networking breakfast followed by informative panel discussions with representatives from top Israeli law firms, foreign firms with an Israel practice, and in-house counsel from Israel-connected companies.

Panelists focused on giving practical advice to those thinking about moving to Israel. Across the board, they communicated that there are many opportunities for lawyers in Israel and with Israeli companies, and that successful shifting of a career requires both thinking outside the box and being open to the possibility of a different type of career path than originally anticipated. Some of the key messages of the morning were: Don't be scared to pave your own way or ask to build a position for yourself; your work in Israel probably won't look the same as it does in the US, but that's not a bad thing; and "network, network, network!"

In addition to Jeremy Lustman (Partner and Head of DLA Piper's Israel Group) and Naomi Maryles (Managing Director at DLA Piper), speakers included Chaim Friedland (Partner, Gornitzky & Co.), Itai Sarfaty (Partner, Herzog, Fox Neeman), Tomer Shani (Managing Director, MeitarNY Inc.), Yoheved Novogroder-Shoshan (Partner, Arnon Tadmor-Levy), Joseph Turitz (Former General Counsel, BioCatch), Avi Lauer (VP for Legal Affairs, Secretary and General Counsel, Yeshiva University), Erin Abrams (Chief Legal Officer, Via), Scott Buell (General Counsel, Forter), Natti Ginor (Head of Israel Investment Banking, Jeffries), Sam Katz (Office Managing Partner, Honigman Law Israel), and Eyal Peled (Partner, Greenberg Traurig). Attendees shared that they were inspired by the positivity of the event and expressed their appreciation for the valuable information and insights.
