DLA Piper advises Respect Energy on the construction of the largest photovoltaic power plant in CEE

DLA Piper has advised Respect Energy, one of the largest independent entities on the electricity market in Poland, on the construction of the largest photovoltaic power plant in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

Respect Energy together with the German concern Goldbeck Solar is responsible for the investment. The project was among the winning auctions to support renewable energy, the results of which were announced by the Energy Regulatory Authority in December 2020.

Located in Zwartów, in the Pomeranian province, the investment will involve the construction of a photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 203 MW. Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2021, and completion is scheduled for 2026, although the first energy will be supplied to consumers as early as Q1 2022. The farm will produce about 230 GWh of green energy per year. The value of the power plant after construction will amount to approximately EUR200 million.

DLA Piper’s team has been led by counsel and head of Energy in Poland, Łukasz Jankowski, with support from associates Klaudia Lorent and Mateusz Koszel.

Commenting on the project, Łukasz Jankowski, said: “The construction of the largest photovoltaic power plant in CEE shows the potential of the Polish market in this sector. I am confident that in the coming years we will see more projects of this scale. Respect Energy is a leader in this space and we are delighted to help them shape the future of Poland’s electricity generation market.”
