DLA Piper advises SER Capital Partners in its acquisition of three battery storage project companies

DLA Piper represented SER Capital Partners, a sustainable investment-focused private equity firm, in its acquisition of three project companies from HGP, a Texas-based energy developer.

As part of its investment, SER also entered into a strategic arrangement with LG Chem, Ltd., a leading lithium-ion battery supplier, to ensure that environmentally sustainable, safe and low-cost equipment is used to serve its Texas customer base.

“We are proud to have brought our extensive energy sector private equity experience to complete this transaction for SER, which will solidify SER’s standing as a leader in sustainable investing and allow it to support the integration of renewable energy in Texas,” said Nathaniel Marrs, co-chair of DLA Piper’s Investment Funds practice.

In addition to Marrs (Chicago), the DLA Piper team representing SER included partners John Cusack, Rob Davis (both of Chicago) and Evelyn Kim (San Francisco); of counsel Jennifer Layfield (Los Angeles); and associates Brian Wohlberg, Joseph Baldwin (both of Chicago), Kim Stouffer (San Francisco) and Andy Zollinger (Dallas).

DLA Piper’s Private Equity practice includes more than 100 US lawyers who provide strategic counsel to private equity funds and the industry-leading companies they invest in. In 2019, Pitchbook recognized DLA Piper as the second most active private equity law firm globally, further solidifying the strength of the firm’s team and its depth of experience executing private equity transactions.

The firm's global Energy and Natural Resources team serves clients in the power, oil and gas, renewable, nuclear, energy trading, climate change and water markets. In addition to energy companies, DLA Piper lawyers advise project sponsors, corporations, developers, financial institutions, governments, utilities and regulatory bodies, providing strategic advice on planning, development, financing and permitting matters, as well as legislative, political and regulatory issues.
