DLA Piper advises BASF Venture Capital on investment in vertical farming start-up UrbanKisaan

DLA Piper has advised BASF Venture Capital, the venture capital arm of BASF SE, on its investment in the Indian vertical farming start-up UrbanKisaan.

Based in Ludwigshafen, Germany, BASF Venture Capital is the corporate venture capital arm of BASF SE with global investment activities, particularly in the Ag-tech sector.

UrbanKisaan, Inc. is an Ag-tech start-up in the field of vertical farming, currently focusing on activities in India. With its technology-driven vertical farms, UrbanKisaan offers fresh food grown in close proximity to consumers in an environmentally friendly manner, realizing its vision of a future sustainable agriculture.

The DLA Piper team was jointly led by partner Dr Benjamin Parameswaran and counsel Dr Philipp Clemens (both Corporate, Hamburg) and also included partner Dr Tim Arndt (Corporate, New York) and associate Edmund Mokhtarian (Corporate, Silicon Valley). Inhouse legal support for the investment was provided by senior counsel Andrea Schreiber.
