DLA Piper adds Samantha Chaifetz as a partner in the firm’s Litigation practice

DLA Piper continues to add depth to its Washington, DC office with the addition of partner Samantha Chaifetz to the firm’s Litigation practice within the Appellate subgroup.

Chaifetz will serve as co-chair of the firm’s Appellate Advocacy practice. She joins Stan Panikowski, a partner in the San Diego office, in this leadership role.

Chaifetz comes to DLA Piper from the US Department of Justice, where she served as appellate counsel for the government in more than one hundred matters involving a wide range of complex constitutional, statutory and administrative law issues. She represented all 15 federal executive departments and numerous other federal entities and has presented oral argument in 10 federal circuits. Her record includes significant victories in cases across diverse practice areas, from healthcare and privacy to the First Amendment and the False Claims Act.

Chaifetz’s prior government experience also includes the White House and the Hill. Most recently, she served as Deputy Counsel to the Vice President. Chaifetz previously served as a counsel to the US Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law.

“Sam is a top-flight appellate litigator, known for her excellent written and oral advocacy. We are excited to leverage her expertise and experience with high-stakes litigation to help our clients with their most challenging disputes,” said Ilana Eisenstein, US chair of the firm’s Litigation practice.

“Sam comes to us with more than 17 years of distinguished service spanning all three branches of government. We are delighted to welcome her to the DC office and proud that our office attracts such top talent with public sector experience,” said William Minor, managing partner of the Washington, DC office.
