Thanos focuses on commercial real estate acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, financing and leasing.

His experience includes representing buyers and sellers of office properties, multifamily properties, industrial properties, shopping centers and mixed use projects and representing institutional investors and developer partners in joint venture transactions. Thanos also represents borrowers in primary and secondary financing for all assets types and represents landlords in leasing office, retail and industrial spaces.

Examples of Thanos' experience include:

  • Represented AEW Capital Management in joint ventures for development projects and existing assets across the United States and in the acquisition of over US$1 billion of retail and office properties
  • Represented Oxford Properties Group in a joint venture with a JPMorgan fund for the acquisition of five Class A office buildings in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts and in approximately US$900 million of associated acquisition financing
  • Represented Oxford Properties Group in over US$1.5 billion of additional joint ventures and acquisitions in New York, Boston and Washington DC and associated acquisition financing
  • Represented value and core investment funds sponsored by an industrial REIT in over US$3 billion of secured and unsecured financing for industrial properties across the United States
  • Represented Union Square Station Associates LLC in the development of an approximately US$1.5 billion mixed use transit-oriented development of 2.4 million square feet in Union Square in Somerville, Massachusetts, including a platform joint venture with USAA Real Estate Company
  • Represented US$7 billion private REIT in joint ventures, acquisitions and financings of office, residential, retail and data center properties in core markets
  • Represented Chinese and German investors in the acquisition and financing of office, residential and retail properties in the United States
  • Negotiated office, industrial, retail and data center leases on behalf of landlords in New York, California and Massachusetts, including an approximately 1 million square-foot warehouse/distribution center and a 77,000 square-foot flagship retail store to an international retailer

Pro Bono

Thanos and other DLA Piper attorneys run a limited-assistance representation housing law clinic on a monthly basis in conjunction with Greater Boston Legal Services assisting low-income tenants facing evictions in preparing pleadings and responses.

Civic and Charitable

Thanos is a co-chair of the Greater Boston Legal Services Associates Drive, a fundraising drive in support of domestic violence-related legal work at Greater Boston Legal Services that targets associates of Boston law firms.
