About

Will Thompson is a first-chair trial lawyer who has secured major wins for both plaintiffs and defendants. Among his notable matters, Will helped root out a multi-year fraud and kickback conspiracy on behalf of one of the largest natural gas producers in the country, which culminated in one of the largest fiduciary duty jury verdicts in Texas the year it was tried. Relying on his background as a former professional baseball player, Will developed a novel defense theory for a leading sports card manufacturer—deposing multiple NHL Hall of Famers along the way.

Will also has substantial experience prosecuting and defending trade secret matters, including a two-month trial in 2024 that involved multiple issues of first impression under state law. He also has significant appellate experience and briefed and argued one of the seminal decisions interpreting the Texas anti-SLAPP statute. Will also maintains an active pro bono docket.

Will was born and raised in the mountains of Western Montana. After graduating from a high school class of 55, Will was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies, but he accepted a college baseball scholarship. In college, the San Francisco Giants drafted Will in the seventh round of the 2004 MLB draft. In his professional baseball career, Will won a batting title after hitting .384, was named to multiple All-Star teams, was a member of multiple league championships, and reached the AAA level before his career was cut short due to an injury.
