Ross Wilson is a Scots law-qualified solicitor and an Associate in our Litigation, Arbitration & Regulatory group. Based in the UAE since 2022, Ross advises clients across the Middle East on complex commercial disputes and regulatory matters, with particular expertise in the hospitality & leisure sector.

Ross has advised and acted for clients in a number of arbitral forums, including DIAC, ICC and SIAC, as well as before the DIFC and ADGM Courts, for both claimants and respondents. His experience includes disputes involving allegations of fraud and misrepresentation, trespass, breach of technical supply requirements under commercial contracts, and a wide range of other issues arising from complex commercial arrangements and transactions.

In addition to his contentious practice, Ross regularly advises on and drafts contractual, legislative, and regulatory frameworks for commercial and state entities.

EXPERIENCE

  • Successfully defending an ADGM company and a former executive in ADGM Court proceedings concerning allegations of fraud, misrepresentation, and breach of fiduciary duty, with claims valued at approximately AED320 million, resulting in a landmark published judgment ([2026] ADGMCFI 0010).
  • Representing a leading multinational hotel chain in numerous actions relating to the removal of defaulting concession operators and the recovery of debt before the DIFC Courts.
  • Advising a leading multinational hotel chain on day-to-day contentious and regulatory matters.
  • Representing a major regional developer in a dispute concerning the interpretation and application of Dubai's Jointly Owned Property Law (Law No. 6 of 2019).
  • Advising a GCC government entity on the drafting of commercial legislation.
  • Advising a GCC government entity on the drafting of real estate legislation.
  • Representing a multinational shipping and logistics company in both SIAC and ICC arbitrations concerning claims against a state-owned entity in the Indian Ocean region.
  • Acting for a Saudi Arabian manufacturer of oil and gas products in a DIAC arbitration arising from the supply of defective raw materials.
  • Acting for a leading aviation services business in a DIAC-seated arbitration concerning a USD96 million dispute arising under a concession in Iraq. The matter also involves advice regarding two concurrent claims before the Iraqi courts.
  • Acting for shareholder executives in disputes involving oppressive conduct and the unlawful application of bad leaver provisions.

Prior Experience

Ross trained with DLA Piper in Edinburgh, and has completed secondments to DLA Piper’s office in Dublin. Prior to joining DLA Piper, Ross tutored in private law at a leading Scottish university.
