DLA Piper advises on EUR375 million financing for Retelit Datacenter

Global law firm DLA Piper advised a pool of financial institutions on the EUR375 million financing for Retelit Datacenter.

The financing packages represents the first structured loan of this magnitude in Italy for one of the leading operators in the colocation data center market, supporting both the expansion of Retelit Datacenter’s existing infrastructure and the development of new data centers across Italy, in line with its growth and investment plan.

Retelit Datacenter, fully controlled by Asterion Industrial Partners, is an independent management company focused on mid-market European infrastructure investments. It operates one of Italy’s main data centere networks with 38 facilities nationwide and is a leading provider of housing and IT infrastructure services for third-party companies.

The cross-practice DLA Piper team was led by partner and Co-Head of the Financial Services Sector in Italy, Ugo Domenico Calò, together with counsel Riccardo Pagotto. DLA Piper has advised several clients on their data centre-related transactions, including:

  • Guiding Digitalland Services (Thailand) Ltd on a THB28 billion (approximately USD770 million) financing package for the development of a new hyperscale data centre
  • Advising Astra Partners, a specialist investor and developer in the data centre market, on receiving a EUR340 million financing facility to fund the development of a datacentre in Kildare, Ireland.
  • Supporting the Qatar Investment Authority on its investment in d-matric, a leader in GenAI for datacentres
  • Advising Helios Investment Partners on the acquisition of Maroc Datacentre, Munisys, and Medasys, creating 3MDC, a new digital infrastructure platform
  • Guiding Prime Capital AG on the acquisition of WBS Flugplatz GmbH and the establishment of a joint venture to develop a hyperscale data center
  • Advising Echelon on the creation of a joint venture with Iberdrola for the development of data centres in Spain
  • Supporting Digital Gravity Partners on the acquisition of an enterprise datacentre in England
  • Leading the legal counsel on the sale of hyperscale datacentre solution provider, AirTrunk, to Blackstone for AUD24 billion.
