Cormac O'Brien is an Associate in the Finance group and has advised domestic Irish and international lenders and borrowers on a wide range of matters, with a particular focus on project finance, development finance and corporate finance.

Having joined the firm in 2025 after three years with another leading commercial law firm, Cormac has frequently advised on matters in the renewable finance, social housing and real estate development sectors.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advised an Irish pillar bank in relation to the financing of a portfolio of social housing provided through a mortgage to rent structure and involving complex intercreditor arrangements with a junior lender.*
  • Advised the developer in relation to the financing of three solar projects in Co. Cork and Co. Kildare with a major European bank. These projects achieved financial close in May 2024.*
  • Advised a major European public bank on the financing of 140 social housing units across Ireland with an Irish social housing operator.*
  • Advised an Irish pillar bank in relation to facilities in excess of 90m€ to a major alternative investment firm in connection with the acquisition and development of three large-scale student accommodation developments.*
  • Advised a large US asset manager on the refinancing of facilities to a vehicle sponsored by a leading US real estate developer and European pension investor, secured on two developments of build to rent apartments and commercial units each in Dublin.*
  • Advised a major European bank on matters relating to the energisation of three solar projects across Ireland including various post-completion consents and the release of substation lands to the ESB.*
  • Advised an Irish pillar bank on the refinancing of a c. 25mW wind farm project at in County Cork.*
