Richard Hans named a 2022 Distinguished Leader by the New York Law Journal

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Richard Hans, the firm’s Managing Partner of Vertical Operations-Disputes, has been named a 2022 Distinguished Leader by the New York Law Journal.

The annual Distinguished Leaders list recognizes lawyers in leadership roles who achieved impressive results over the past year and “had great performances while demonstrating clear leadership skills leading to positive outcomes.”

Hans, who also serves as global co-chair of DLA Piper’s Financial Services sector and previously served as managing partner of the firm’s New York office, was recognized in part for his steadfast leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This included managing the seamless transition of the firm’s New York office to remote work while maintaining a commitment to transparency and a sense of camaraderie.

“My team and I kept our people connected and worked hard during those difficult early days of the pandemic to sustain the bonds among us that are so critical to our firm and office culture,” he told the publication.

A US Navy veteran, Hans also chairs the firm's Veterans and Military Families Resource Group. He has frequently engaged in pro bono representation of veterans seeking discharge upgrades, and he served on the Legal Services Corporation’s Veterans Task Force, seeking to improve pro bono and other support services for veterans of the US Armed Forces.

In his practice, Hans represents and advises financial institutions and global enterprises in complex litigation and investigations. His engagements range from leading securities and commercial litigation to representing special committees in internal investigations and derivative litigation.
