Daniel González Estrada is a trial lawyer who focuses his practice on complex litigation, cross-border matters, and domestic commercial judicial controversies. These include civil liability and damage litigation disputes.

He has extensive experience with civil, commercial, and bankruptcy litigation proceedings and has participated in cross-border insolvency proceedings in Mexico. Daniel has participated in insolvency and bankruptcy judicial proceedings, representing creditors and debtors alike.

He has represented major Mexican and foreign financial institutions, as well as multinational companies, in corporate litigation before Mexican federal and local courts.

Daniel has represented global and high-level local companies in trials under Mexican law. He has counseled corporations in the pharmaceutical, construction, railway, food and beverage, banking, energy, and mining industries.

His experience includes the practice of enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitration awards under Mexican law. It also includes annulment proceedings of arbitration clauses. Additionally, he has advised on class actions and disputes related to the liability of internet intermediaries.

  • Represented a shareholder of a large Mexican airport operating group in connection with major litigation related to a Mexican company's wrongful acquisition of more than the 10 percent of the ownership of shares
  • Represented Mexico tier-1 construction company in a corporate and shareholder's judicial dispute in connection with two major infrastructure projects
  • Advised a major pharmaceutical multinational company in connection with a commercial dispute under a supply and distribution agreement. The matter included several remedies and motions before the Supreme Court of Justice of Mexico
  • Led the judicial proceeding on behalf of a shareholder of a major Mexican construction company in connection with annulment of contracts and wrongful actions executed by subsidiary companies

Pro Bono

Daniel provides legal advice to a nonprofit construction organization that helps build schools and houses in low-income areas of Mexico.

Daniel led the Mexico chapter in providing legal assistance to nonprofit organization Fair Trials, the only international NGO that campaigns exclusively for the right to fair trials.

Prior Experience

Before joining DLA Piper, Daniel served as an associate at a local law firm focused on civil and commercial litigation. He assisted in the preparation of amparo trials before federal courts, tribunals and the Supreme Court of Justice.

From 2008 to 2010, he served as the federal trials director of the general attorney's office.

Among other activities, Daniel has litigated and monitored trials related to national interests on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. He has additionally acted as counsel on behalf of various federal agencies and entities and has actively participated in the defense of the federal government within patrimonial liability proceedings regarding irregular activities of administrative public servants.

From 2011 to 2021, he practiced at the Mexico City office of a global law firm, co-leading the civil and commercial disputes practice, advising and representing major global companies within commercial and bankruptcy trials, and advising on amparo proceedings.
