Edward (Ed) Eisdell-Moore is a partner in DLA Piper’s Technology and Data practice in New Zealand. He advises organisations on complex, business-critical technology and data and privacy matters, including artificial intelligence (AI), major technology and sourcing projects, and cybersecurity.

Ed’s practice spans the full life cycle of major projects, supporting clients from procurement and contract negotiation through to implementation and ongoing operational management. He acts for start-ups, high-growth technology businesses, major corporates and publicly listed multinationals, particularly in data-intensive and infrastructure-driven sectors, including energy and digital infrastructure. He is known for delivering prompt, pragmatic and international best practice advice to clients managing rapid technological change and evolving regulatory expectations.

Ed has deep experience across the regulatory frameworks relevant to his practice, particularly privacy and data protection and consumer law, and regularly advises on governance and compliance structures that can be embedded into day-to-day business operations.

EXPERIENCE

Edward’s recent experience includes advising:

  • Supporting a leading New Zealand insurer through a business-critical migration of its core insurance platform to a cloud-based solution, addressing technology, data and regulatory risk.
  • Providing privacy and data protection advice to a global artificial intelligence provider in connection with the New Zealand deployment of its technology.
  • Advising on the New Zealand rollout of AI-enabled healthcare software for an international medtech business, with a focus on regulatory compliance, data protection and deployment risk.
  • Acting for multinational corporates across the retail and aviation sectors on New Zealand data breach incidents, including regulatory notification obligations and incident response strategy.
  • Leading the technology procurement workstream for a major New Zealand grocery business implementing a new commerce platform, including complex consulting and SaaS arrangements.
  • Supporting a US-based multinational technology company on consumer law and compliance issues arising from its New Zealand digital operations.
  • Working with an international digital energy management provider delivering technology-enabled services to New Zealand electricity generators and retailers.
  • Assisting a US-based tracking and location services provider with the New Zealand launch of its products, including telecommunications, radiocommunications and data protection compliance.
